My husband Vic and I have been "in dogs" so to speak for 40 years now and Vic was a licensed AKC handler in the 60's and 70's when AKC licensed handlers (they no longer do) and a PHA member as well. We fell in love with paps when we handled and finished several for some clients in the 70's but since we had large dogs of our own at the time it took many years before we were able to add a papillon to our household and now we are fortunate to have two. We put adds everywhere, but no one claimed her. I was in this pet store one day and I saw a book, with a picture of my newly aquired dog and the name was papillon. The vet confirmed my suspicions, and said she was almost certainly a purebred. I think finding her was one of the most rewarding things that has ever happened to me. She picked me from the start and became MY dog. Never was there a smarter, more crazy, lovable, unique dog in the world. She was my beakon of light. Sadly, I only had her but a year. She was a free spirit, and after having escaped my backyard yet again, one winter day, she slid under the wheel of a car. Though at the time, I thought I couldn't go on without her, now there are only fond memories of a dog that changed my life, and who I think back on with a smile. She was so amazing!
